Faraz Anwar & Imran Raza – Bombs of Dhamma
Release Date: Saturday 1st March, 2008

Singer-songwriter Imran Raza and guitarist Faraz Anwar hope to bring an unlikely revolution to Pakistan – one guided by Sufi-oriented music inspired by Led Zeppelin and Metallica. The country’s music-averse extremists were quick to take notice.

DHAMMA is a word in the Palli language, which was widely used by Guatama Buddha, 2500 years ago in Northern India. “Dhamma” means Universal Love; that is unconditional love for all regardless of religion, race or creed. It also connotes a mental state of purity where one seeks to harm no one. It is used currently in South Asia in the Urdu word “Dhammal,” which Sufi’s use to refer to the same elevated mental state as above.

The Bombs of Dhamma – (7:28 min)

Lyrics

Eddie Vedder sang about the Marker in the Sand
While all sides claim God’s Helping Hand,
The Business of War enjoys Prosperity’s Brand.

I believe in Enlightened Moderation
The beauty of knowing who you are
I believe that reaching out to one another
Will allow us to rise into Stars

Then we’ll fall back down to Earth
As the Bombs of Dhamma

Bombs of Purity
And
Bombs of Joy

Bombs of Peace
And
Bombs of Love

Bombs of Harmony
And
Bombs of Compassion

The BOMBS of DHAMMA!
The BOMBS of DHAMMA!
DHAMMA SWEET DHAMMA!
LIBERATION IS DHAMMA!
THE BOMBS OF DHAMMA!

WHOAH THE BOMBS OF DHAMMA!

The Caricature of a Prophet
A Half-Naked Woman on a Burning Cross
A Bold Denial of the Holocaust

Is it Journalistic Integrity?
Elevated Artistry?
Or Freedom of Speech?

Or do those who Spit
On what others hold Sacred
Engage in a Bit
Of Mischief that’s Wicked?
